YPIE's Annual Gala at X20 Xaviars on the Hudson serves as a major fundraising event and also an opportunity to recognize the support of volunteers. Yonkers Partners in Education is a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing Yonkers school students for success in college. It provides after school tutoring, mentors, college visits and more. Volunteers Jane and Toby McAfee received the YPIE Spirit Award.

The month long Hudson Valley Ramble invites residents and visitors alike to get out and experience the history, culture and outdoor recreation opportunities that abound in the region. Events include touring the world famous Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown. Its guided tours both daytime and its popular Evening Lantern Light Tour, introduce guests to the tomb of author Washington Irving and many famous New Yorkers whose final resting place lie within the 80 acres of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

September is National Recovery Month so to celebrate; the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County staged a 5K run and walk. The event focused on reducing the stigma that often surrounds addiction and treatment.

Carlucci was joined by New York State Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul for the program recorded at the Rockland Community College Eugene Levy Field House.

Lyme Disease Awareness & Prevention, Hyde Park

According to the most recent report by the Center for Disease Control, New York State has the third highest number of confirmed cases of Lyme disease in the entire country. While it started as an issue dominating Long Island and the Hudson Valley, it has quickly migrated to counties all across New York. Senator Sue Serino, chair of the New York State Senate Task Force on Lyme & Tick-Borne Diseases, recently held a Lyme disease community forum at the FDR Library in Hyde Park to better educate and empower area residents to prevent further infection.

Once again the 1883 Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse shines a beacon across the Hudson River just north of the Tappan Zee Bridge, and more restoration of the building will follow. Adjacent to the light, the former General Motors site will become a major new neighborhood in the village, with homes and businesses. Edge on Hudson and the restored Lighthouse are game changers for the Village of Sleepy Hollow.

Charity Champions Grand Prize, Warwick Valley H.S.

It was time to celebrate the efforts of some special students at Warwick Valley High School who have voraciously tackled the issue of hunger in the Hudson Valley. Empty Bowls is a program that asks people to create handmade bowls and sell them in order to raise funds to feed the hungry and these students had an appetite for helping those in need. Optimum Community contributed 5 thousand dollars to their efforts and named them the greater Hudson Valley's Charity Champions Grand Prize Winners.
